LGC VA: Legislative Action planning meeting

Hello Virginia LGCers! 

I'm sorry this message is going out late.  Its been an eventful start to the new year. Last week we finalized the content of our Constitution and Bylaws, its getting edited for spelling, formatting and grammar.

The State Legislature is going into session later this month.  We will attempt to go to Richmond (in person) again this year if the situation permits.  We are planning to hold our legislative outreach day on January 21, 2022. 

The bad new is that Democrats lost the all three state wide offices and the House of Delegates.  The good news is that this makes it less likely that we will need to play defense for bad legislation.  While this election did not turn on firearms policy, there was some electoral chicanery from Dominion Energy that activated conservative voters in Western Virginia. 

We need to start contacting Democrats to remind them we exist and start shaping legislative goals for the coming term. 

1. Fixing the excesses of the red-flag law.
   
2. Reduce the ability of municipalities to enact arbitrary and difficult to follow laws on where firearms can be carried. 
   
3. Promote evidence based suicide and violence-prevention programs. 
   
4. Urge our representatives to repeal racist gun laws.
